It’s no secret that I absolutely love Philadelphia Cream Cheese. I love it in cheesecake, on bagels, in dips and occasionally even just scooped right out of the tub. And even though I’m a big fan of original Philly, I also have so much fun creating new recipes with the many different flavoured Philly cream cheeses available. So when I saw that Philly was introducing a brand new flavour of cream cheese to its collection, I couldn’t wait to whip up something delicious.
New Philadelphia Creamy Cheddar Cream Cheese combines creamy, dreamy Philadelphia Cream Cheese with real cheddar for a taste that’s sure to be any cheese lover’s dream come true. And with Victoria Day just a little over one week away, I knew I wanted to use it to create a tasty appetizer recipe that would be perfect for celebrating the long weekend.
Cooking for a house full of men means bacon is always a good addition to a recipe. So I decided to try the Creamy Cheddar Bacon Dip…with a twist! Since my guys like it hot, I added one simple ingredient to create an absolutely addictive Buffalo Bacon Cheddar Dip!
Now in my first attempt to make a spicy dip, I added about half a cup of salsa to the ingredients and baked it as directed. The flavours would have blended perfectly in theory but as it happened, the stronger bacon and cheddar tastes overwhelmed the flavour of the salsa. We still loved the dip, but none of us could taste the salsa I’d added in the hopes of giving the dip some Mexican flair.
That’s when Jeremy added some hot pepper sauce to his serving of dip. I tried a bite and knew in a second that he’d found a winning combination. I made the dip again, this time adding 1/4 cup of hot pepper sauce. The result was a creamy, flavourful dip with just the right bit of heat. And of course, the dip is also delicious in its original version if I want to make it for milder taste-buds! I also made this already-easy recipe even easier by using a half cup of real bacon bits instead of cooking and crumbling bacon myself.
