I’ve always felt that one of the best learning opportunities we can give our children is simply stepping outside and exploring the world around us. Growing up in a small town, my boys had many chances to learn about nature, walk the streets without fear and enjoy the exercise and education the outdoors has to offer. Now, living in a city, the options for outdoor play are a little more limited. And that means it’s time for me to get creative!
EnviroKidz, maker of delicious organic cereal and snacks for kids, is passionate about encouraging learning through outdoor exploration. And recently the company launched a new initiative to help inspire kids to learn about the earth: the Ecokeepers Program. The program is free for camps and schools and helps kids develop a connection to nature by combining outdoor activities with the fun of geocaching (searching for treasure boxes using GPS coordinates)! The Ecokeepers kits include Explorer Guides, parent literature, geocaches for kids to hide and the now peanut-free EnviroKidz Granola Bars for energy! Interested? Make sure to visit the Ecokeepers website for full program details and to apply!
To celebrate the launch of the new program, EnviroKidz sent me my own Ecokeepers kit so that I could see firsthand what the program was like. When Zackary was a toddler, I used to take him letterboxing, an activity similar to geocaching in which hunters search for rubber stamps and use them to fill a notebook with unique stamped designs. Geocaching is very similar but with some fun additions made possible thanks to technology. For example, the kit I received contains a clever trackable ladybug keychain so that I can follow its journey from geocache to geocache as it travels around the country!
Want to get involved in the fun of exploring the outdoors with your kids? EnviroKidz is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader an Ecokeepers prize pack just like the one I received, a $75 value! Containing EnviroKidz Peanut-Free Granola Bars, Kid’s Explorer Guides, a geocaching kit with instructions on hiding it and coupons for Nature’s Path products, this pack has everything you need to enjoy nature with your kids and help others do the same! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about whether you’ve ever tried geocaching before.
When my boys and I looked for a spot to hide our geocache kit, I was shocked to learn that there are 145 geocaches in and around Moose Jaw already! By simply registering at Geocaching.com I was able to not only add our geocache and trackable ladybug to the website, but also find other nearby hiding spots to search for later. I have a feeling quite a few of our evenings are going to be spent hunting for boxes and filling in the Explorer Guides! Whether you want to bring this program to your child’s class or you just want to get your little one excited about going outside, Ecokeepers is a great way to do that. Visit the website to learn more and see how much fun is waiting nearby!

No, i never tried it before
I’ve never tried Geocaching but would like to someday. My nephew and his family are very much into it, and it seems like they have a lot of fun. Thanks.
