4 Benefits of Cleaning With Pressure Washers

When we moved into our new dream home on the prairies, one of the first things we realized we needed was a portable pressure washer.

Pressure washers are handy for cleaning everything from decks and roofs to driveways and even floors. The equipment uses pressurized water to remove grime, grease, stains, dirt and debris.

In fact, some people even prefer to use a pressure washer to clean their cars at home! The results rival any car wash for a fraction of the price.

And the long cleaning wand makes for much easier cleaning in hard-to-reach places, too. Wondering if a pressure washer would be a good investment for your home? Here’s four reasons you may want to consider getting one!

1. They Save You Time

Cleaning any surface with a brush or a mop can really take time. Depending on how big your cleaning job is, doing the work by hand may mean taking days to clean or getting help from somebody else.

With a good portable pressure washer, cleaning doesn’t just become faster, it becomes more fun! The equipment saves the back-breaking labour so that you can clean multiple items and surfaces in a flash. And there’s nothing more satisfying than watching the grime lift off a dirty surface as you blast it with your pressure washer!

2. They’re Environmentally Friendly

Washing most surfaces with mops, sponges and brushes usually means using some kind of cleaning solution. And depending on the cleaner you choose, that may mean washing with potentially dangerous chemicals that could hurt the environment or even damage your items. For example, residue from an acidic rain can react with chemicals in some detergents to accelerate rusting in metal.

Even worse, when some chemicals are absorbed by the soil, they can eventually cause plants to die. Research also shows that some cleaning solutions contain ingredients that trigger certain allergies. Pressure washers, on the other hand, can often get items perfectly clean with nothing but pure water!

3. They Prevent Water Wastage

Anyone that’s ever tried cleaning surfaces using a bucket and brush will tell you that the process uses a lot of water. It takes a lot of scrubbing and rinsing to remove stubborn stains! It might seem as if a pressure washer is using even more water, but the opposite is actually true!

I experienced this first-hand when we used our new pressure washer to clean our house siding. Our water tank in the basement, which is completely empty after three hours of lawn watering, was still full after three hours of pressure washing!

On average, you might need as much as seven gallons of water to clean something that takes just three gallons of water with a pressure washer. And saving that extra water isn’t just better for the environment, it’s better for the pocketbook when your monthly water bill comes!

4. They Minimize Bacteria

Dirt, grease, bird droppings and debris encourage the growth of fungi, algae and molds. And those can harbor bacteria and other organisms that cause allergic reactions or even diseases. Cleaning your home with a pressure washer helps to eliminate the harmful substances before they cause problems. The pressurized water blasts away the dirt and mold that form such a perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

Eliminating bacteria is an important health consideration, and it can also help protect your home. When bird droppings and other stains are not washed away promptly, the resulting bacteria can cause items to wear out quicker as the stains gradually eat through plastic, metal and other materials.

I surprised my husband with a portable pressure washer as a Father’s Day gift this year, and we’ve already used it for so many jobs around the house! I chose a reasonably-priced second-hand unit, and it’s been worth every penny with the money and time we’ve saved.

If you own or rent a house, you’ll be amazed by just how handy a portable pressure washer can be. First, check out the different models and decide how much power you need and how much you want to spend. Then, choose your favourite and enjoy easier cleaning for years to come!

I used to have a pressure washer and loved it, I’m thinking of getting another for cleaning siding, windows and my patio. They are really very useful machines to have.

  2. I love my pressure washer had it for years and took it out last week and it does not work. Will have to see if we can figure what is wrong with it.

  3. My husband uses his pressure washer all the time. We use it for the windows, cleaning the siding and the deck. They are great!
