Kids Will Have Sweet Dreams with the Cloud b Charley the Chameleon-Giveaway

November 9, 2016 by Kathryn 150 Comments

If there’s one thing that makes nighttime a little more relaxing and enjoyable for a small child, it’s having a good friend nearby. A favourite cuddly stuffed toy, a well-worn baby blanket…there are all kinds of nighttime companions that kids turn to when the lights go out. And for over twenty years, Cloud b has been making some of the most innovative and interactive nighttime friends for babies and big kids alike.

My oldest son had both a Twilight Sea Turtle and a Mimicking Monkey from Cloud b that he slept with for years. He loved the pattern of stars the turtle projected on his ceiling, but he was even more fond of the peaceful nighttime noises of his monkey, and especially loved it when I would record a little message for him to listen to as he settled down to sleep. Years later, the innovations from Cloud b continue to improve with new products including Storytime Huxley, Torsten the Giant Turtle and Charley the Chameleon.

Safety First: 5 Tips For Childproofing Your Home

July 28, 2014 by Kathryn 2 Comments

Your children are the most important part of your life, and keeping them as safe as possible is a constant in any parents’ day-to-day routine. Your house is the place thought to be the safest for your precious bundles, but in fact, homes can be filled with more potential hazards than the outdoors. And a big part of this is due to people often letting their guard down in their own environment. Below are five solutions to consider when childproofing your home.

Be Materialistic

The material selection of a piece of furniture is important, but is probably not the first thing you think of when childproofing your home. Try to incorporate furniture and wooden toys made from a durable material, such as the rubberwood cots and change tables. Durability should be standard when it comes to kids, so don’t forget this when furniture hunting. Check out sites like Super A-Mart for ideas on the types of fabrics available. [Read more…]

Top Three Ways to Spend Time Outside with Your Baby this Summer #MomTrust

May 27, 2014 by Kathryn 31 Comments

Maybe it’s because I live in a province that’s known for harsh winter weather, but as far as I’m concerned, there is nothing more wonderful than being outside once warm weather has arrived in Saskatchewan. In fact, for the last two weekends I’ve been in the back yard relaxing in a lawn chair reading almost from dawn until dusk!

While my boys are usually outside with me as well, they spend those sunshine-filled hours playing on the swing set, jumping on the trampoline or running through the sprinkler. But even when they were younger, I found plenty of ways to have fun outside with them. This month, the Playtex Mom Trust asked me to share a few of my favourite outdoor activities with infants and toddlers. If you have a baby in the house, these are my top three ways to have fun outside with your baby this summer!

Get Walking

Not only is walking great exercise, it’s a chance for your little one to see more of the world around him. Even a simple walk around the block exposes a baby to new sights, sounds and smells that help expand his knowledge of the world. I used to make a daily trip to the post office each day pushing my baby in the stroller, with occasional longer walks to run errands or visit the park. He loved relaxing in his seat in the shade as we walked! [Read more…]
