Holiday Meal Idea for the Busy Family

I love Kraft dressings, and when Kraft launched its new Sizzling Salads kits this past summer, I was thrilled when I was given a chance to review one of the four delicious-sounding varieties for myself. With people’s minds now turning towards holiday meal planning, Kraft is ready with some great festive ways to dress up your salad with the help of the Kraft Sizzling Salads kits. I was intrigued by some of the new variations Kraft had come up with and was thrilled when I received two of the Kraft Sizzling Salads kits so that I could test out the recipes for myself.

I received the Chicken Caesar and the Southwest Chicken kits to review. I’ve tried the Chicken Caesar kit in the past and still purchase the kit regularly, but the new recipe for Festive Turkey Caesar Salad sounded so delicious that I knew I would be giving it a try as soon as possible.

The kit contains Classic Caesar dressing and Cracked Black Pepper cooking sauce and the standard recipe uses boneless skinless chicken breasts and romaine with optional add-ins like croutons, bacon bits and Parmesan cheese. We are big salad lovers in our household, so I honestly never made one of these salads without using almost all of the add-ins. They just make a good salad so much better!

The Festive Turkey Caesar Salad was basically the same as the standard recipe, except dried cranberries were used as an additional add-in and the chicken was replaced by either boneless skinless turkey breast or by chopped leftover turkey.

I love turkey, so I really enjoyed switching up my salad by using it in place of the chicken. But what really blew me away about this recipe was the addition of the dried cranberries. They added a perfect sweet/tart flavor to the salad that was the perfect compliment to the spicy cooking sauce and creamy dressing. I also loved how the berries added such a great splash of bright red color to the dark green of the romaine.

The Southwest Chicken Ranch kit was one that I hadn’t tried before, so I decided to stick with the basic recipe for my first preparation. I did, however, decide to make taco bowls as the Kraft website suggested. I simply sprayed a ceramic bowl with non-stick cooking spray, pressed a tortilla over the outside of the bowl and put it in the microwave for just under three minutes. When it had cooled, I had a perfect crisp and delicious tortilla bowl!The kit contained Barbeque Ranch dressing and Spicy Fajita cooking sauce. I made the salad using romaine lettuce instead of the recommended iceberg and included cheddar cheese, red peppers, tomatoes, corn, black beans and green onions as the add-ins. Despite the implied heat in the name, I found the level of spice in this kit to be just perfect. The great southwest flavors were there, but they were nice and mild and didn’t overpower the delicate flavors of the vegetables. With the add-ins contributing to the heartiness and flavor of the meal and the tortilla bowls to add a fun crunch, this Kraft Sizzling Salads kit was instantly a family favorite.
