October is Fire Prevention Month and it’s such an important time to make sure that your family is protected and prepared in case of a fire. It’s no secret to most people that having working fire alarms in the home is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your family’s safety in an emergency, but many people still tend to forget to check those alarms regularly and replace them periodically when needed.
First Alert, Canada’s most trusted and recognized fire safety brand, wants to ensure that Canadian families stay safe all year, and this month First Alert is making that even easier with the release of the new First Alert ATOM Smoke Alarm this month. The alarm uses micro technology to provide maximum protection in a small and sleek design. In fact, the ATOM Smoke Alarm is no bigger than a votive candle, which means it’s the perfect alarm for discreetly protecting your stylish home without spoiling the look of your décor!
What I loved most about this alarm was the fact that it used photoelectric sensors rather than ionization sensors. The technology is generally more sensitive at recognizing a smouldering fire, which can produce large amounts of smoke before finally bursting into flames. Since smoke is so dangerous in the event of a fire, I loved that I could trust this alarm to sound before flames actually broke out!
I also received the Designer Series Combination Alarm, which boasts a variety of high-tech features including a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, voice and location technology and photoelectric sensors. I loved the fact that this alarm included two important alarms in one unit since many people still don’t have carbon monoxide alarms and this device makes it easy to ensure maximum protection for a family.
With winter just around the corner, ensuring that your household is ready in case of an emergency is so important. Make it easy with the First Alert ATOM Smoke Alarm, available now at Canadian Tire, Walmart and Lowes! It’s one of the simplest things you can do to ensure your family is safe in the event of a fire.

Last time was in the spring when the time went ahead, we check and change the batteries when the time changes.
Last time change – guess we are having one soon – must go buy batteries – thanks for the reminder
We tested our smoke alarms last month.
Our building reps are coming to test them next week for us but we try and test every month or so
we just tested them last month actually while doing some reno’s
Funny enough, about three days ago. My husband was a firefighter and so he’s pretty on top of these things – but he would love another alarm.
after a house fire in 2009 we do it monthly
I am a freak about fire alarms and they get checked monthly, no fail 1st day of the month
Hubby’s stir fry tested it yesterday, everything is A-OK!
I like to test them every 6 months or so, unless of course I cook bacon and they go off so I know they are working lol.
