October is Fire Prevention Month and it’s such an important time to make sure that your family is protected and prepared in case of a fire. It’s no secret to most people that having working fire alarms in the home is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your family’s safety in an emergency, but many people still tend to forget to check those alarms regularly and replace them periodically when needed.
First Alert, Canada’s most trusted and recognized fire safety brand, wants to ensure that Canadian families stay safe all year, and this month First Alert is making that even easier with the release of the new First Alert ATOM Smoke Alarm this month. The alarm uses micro technology to provide maximum protection in a small and sleek design. In fact, the ATOM Smoke Alarm is no bigger than a votive candle, which means it’s the perfect alarm for discreetly protecting your stylish home without spoiling the look of your décor!
What I loved most about this alarm was the fact that it used photoelectric sensors rather than ionization sensors. The technology is generally more sensitive at recognizing a smouldering fire, which can produce large amounts of smoke before finally bursting into flames. Since smoke is so dangerous in the event of a fire, I loved that I could trust this alarm to sound before flames actually broke out!
I also received the Designer Series Combination Alarm, which boasts a variety of high-tech features including a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, voice and location technology and photoelectric sensors. I loved the fact that this alarm included two important alarms in one unit since many people still don’t have carbon monoxide alarms and this device makes it easy to ensure maximum protection for a family.
With winter just around the corner, ensuring that your household is ready in case of an emergency is so important. Make it easy with the First Alert ATOM Smoke Alarm, available now at Canadian Tire, Walmart and Lowes! It’s one of the simplest things you can do to ensure your family is safe in the event of a fire.

I checked it two months ago.
I check my alarm every month and replace them every 7 years.
not recently enough, going to tomorrow now!
upstairs is wired with backup battery. downstairs we change battery every 6 months
My smoke alarms are wired in so if the green light goes off they are not working. I look at them almost every night.
April, and they needed to be replaced (twice, since the first new ones were defective … very intermittent, barely-audible beep which I thought was a new feature indicating auto-testing, so I’m sure glad that I overheard a conversation about this so I could get these replaced so I’m protected!). Since mine are new, I’d love to win this prize for my sister’s home :-).
we test them in the fall (sept.)
My alarm is tested every few months.
I tested one of mine about a week ago after it started chirping. I changed the battery and then tested it to be sure it works. I need to test the rest of them soon.
It wasn`t very long ago actually, because it started to beep warning me the battery was low..lol.
