If there’s one thing that I make no secret of, it’s my love of cheese. Of all the foods in the world, it is quite easily my favourite and I add it to virtually any dish I can think of.
I make all kinds of meals with cheese, but for a quick lunch or an afternoon snack, there’s simply nothing better than a grilled cheese sandwich made with Kraft Singles cheese slices.
As luck would have it, April is National Grilled Cheese Month, and since I definitely don’t wait until April to enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches, I wanted to do something extra special to commemorate the event. And so the Grilled Cheese Party was born!
The boys and I created three gourmet twists on the classic grilled cheese sandwich with the help of an array of different toppings and bread. If you love grilled cheese, you will definitely want to try one of these tasty variations!
The first variation we tried was the Spicy Jalapeno Grilled Cheese. Thinly sliced red peppers and sliced jalapenos on light rye bread gave this grilled cheese just the right amount of kick. Zackary is a huge fan of spicy food so he loved this twist on a classic grilled cheese sandwich.
The second grilled cheese masterpiece we created was the Bacon Avocado Grilled Cheese. For maximum decadence, I made this grilled cheese sandwich on a cheese bun and it was such a good choice! The salty bacon, gooey cheese and creamy avocado made for a sandwich that was bursting with flavour and incredibly rich and cheesy. Benjamin loved the combination of flavours in this sandwich!
My final grilled cheese creation was the Tomato Pesto Grilled Cheese. I wanted a firmer, denser bread for this sandwich so I used a multigrain Ciabatta bun. Store-bought Pesto sauce and sliced tomato paired with the melted cheese to give this sandwich a distinctly Italian flavour, and the bread crisped up beautifully for a grilled cheese sandwich that had gourmet appeal.
If you’re looking for a way to fancy up your next grilled cheese sandwich, you’ll love the great collection of grilled cheese recipes on the Kraft Canada What’s Cooking website!
Personally, I think I’ll be serving my next grilled cheese sandwich with this amazing-sounding Tomato-Basil Soup!
I love grilled cheese because it’s such a simple, classic food that can still be dressed up in so many different ways. And there’s no better time to enjoy one than National Grilled Cheese Month!
Grab a package of Kraft Singles and your favourite frying pan, and give one of these fun variations a try, or celebrate the month by creating your own grilled cheese masterpiece. Either way it`s sure to be a deliciously cheesy time!
