Visiting New Orleans, the city of live music and delicious food, has been a dream of mine for a while. But I soon realized that there was a lot more to Louisiana than just the Big Easy and decided that I should make a trip with the whole family to explore the best attractions Southern Louisiana has to offer.

Our first stop was Cajun Country and the heart of Cajun Country is Lafayette. This family-friendly city about two hours away from New Orleans has a laid-back vibe that was instantly appealing. After checking into our room at the beautiful SpringHill Suites Lafayette South, we were ready to explore the best kid-friendly things to do in Lafayette, LA. And luckily, the city has something for everyone!

Plan the Perfect Camping Trip with 3 Simple Tips and Woods Canada-Giveaway #woodsexplorer

August 18, 2015 by Kathryn 25 Comments

My boys and I have always loved camping. From cooking over a fire to sleeping in a tent, the chance to connect with nature while discovering a new area is something we all love. But the perfect camping trip means having the perfect camping gear too, and this year I’ve been able to take our camping trips from average to amazing with gear from Woods Canada!

Of course, any great camping trip starts with the planning, and for the ultimate vacation, these are the three tips I use for planning the best possible camping trip!

Research the Location

While many campsites have standard amenities including washrooms, showers, a convenience store and more, there can be a lot of variation in the available amenities from site to site. Ensure you know about the available features of your chosen location so that you can pack accordingly. A campsite with showers, for example, means that you may want to pack shampoo and body wash in your toiletries. And a site with a store will let you pack less food if desired to save space. Three Road Trips with Kids You Should Make this Summer

July 15, 2014 by Kathryn 44 Comments

In my mind, the cold winter months are the best time to fly, while summer is the best time to drive. So every year when the weather warms up, I start planning vacations within driving distance of our small-town Saskatchewan home. And luckily for me, there are quite a few!

Want to plan a road trip and you’re not sure how to get started? This month, as part of the Playtex Mom Trust, I’m sharing my top three choices for summer road trips with kids that the whole family will enjoy.

Wilderness Adventure

When my boys and I want to spend a week away without having to drive too far to reach our destination, camping in a nearby provincial or national park is always something we enjoy.

From spending time on the beach to running around the playgrounds to biking along the campsite paths, there’s always plenty to keep the whole family entertained. And it’s a vacation that’s suitable for everyone from babies to adults. Even better, many campsites now offer rentals of ready-to-camp tents so that you don’t need a lot of gear to have a lot of fun outside! [Read more…]

Finding Our Disney Side at the Disneyland Theme Park

January 20, 2014 by Kathryn 44 Comments

Visiting a Disney theme park was something that I always dreamed about as a child. I was lucky enough to travel quite a bit in my youth, but going to Disneyland was one adventure I never had the chance to experience. Last year that all changed when my boys and I flew off for a five-day trip to Disneyland to discover our Disney side for the first time.

What’s your Disney side? Well that’s simple. It’s the magic that fills you up and takes over your heart the second your family steps through the gates of a Disney theme park. As we prepared for our trip, I heard from friends about that moment their Disney side took over. For one father, it was seeing the way his little girls’ faces lit up when they saw the Mickey Mouse flower garden just inside the Disneyland entrance. For a mom friend, it was rushing off to take that first thrilling ride on Indiana Jones Adventure with her teenage son after arriving.
