Encourage Play and Learning with the Fisher-Price Little People Animal Friends Farm-Giveaway #PlayAdvocates

April 9, 2015 by Kathryn 119 Comments

I’ve often commented on how much I love the Fisher-Price line of toys, not just because they’re designed to provide educational fun for children but also because they are so timeless. My very first toy ever, bought when my mom was eight months pregnant with me, was a Fisher-Price Happy Apple and that jingling plaything went on to provide entertainment to all five of my mom’s children and then later to my own son.

The Happy Apple is my personal favourite timeless toy just for its sentimental value but the Fisher-Price Little People Animal Friends Farm, first released in 1978, is no less iconic. And while the look of the farm may have changed over the years, its ability to stimulate imaginative play and encourage parent/child interaction hasn’t changed a bit! My boys both loved their Little People Animal Friends Farm and I have fond memories of watching them create stories with the animals and of sitting down on the floor and playing with them! Imagination Takes Off with the Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends Batcave-Giveaway

December 18, 2013 by Kathryn 133 Comments

It’s hard being a preschooler and wanting to play with toys for older children. My youngest son was introduced to various superheroes by his brother, but most of the toys featuring those heroes are designed for older children. That’s why I love the Fisher-Price Imaginext line. Not only does it feature all kinds of great imaginative and interactive play sets for preschool children, there is even a special DC Super Friends line featuring popular superheroes!

Benjamin has always loved Batman, so I especially favour the Batman-themed play sets. The Imaginext DC Super Friends Batcave set features two figures, accessories and special activation discs that trigger effects in the Batcave for hours of entertainment. There’s even secret walkways, an elevator and a jail! And kids will love helping Batman zoom around to save the day on the Batwing motorcycle. [Read more…]

Get Imaginative with Fisher-Price Imaginext and Ed Venture #ImaginextAdventures

November 28, 2013 by Kathryn 42 Comments

I’ve often mentioned how much my boys thrive on imaginative play. It all started when my oldest son was just a toddler and the two of us would spend the day with a pile of toys making up stories. It didn’t take Zackary long to discover Hot Wheels and once he did, they became the stars of all our games. But because he had such a great imagination, the cars didn’t just race around. Instead they had conversations, picked up items from the store and dropped off treats for friends.

I loved the fun and kind-hearted pretend play, but that all changed when Zackary started Kindergarten. Being around other children that had been exposed to different types of games, Zackary suddenly turned every game into a battle or a competition. I know that my son’s competitive spirit is going to be beneficial to him in life once he learns to temper it a bit, but the way it completely took over his imaginative play was overwhelming! And of course, he taught his little brother how to play the same style of games as well. [Read more…]

Celebrate Five New Friends Joining the Fisher-Price Little People with a Special Contest from Treehouse #FPLittlePeople

October 28, 2013 by Kathryn 2 Comments

It always amazes me that two boys with the same parents raised in the same household with the same rules can be so very different. My boys have a few things in common, such as their love for imaginative play and their fondness for babies. But in so many other ways, they aren’t alike at all.

Zackary has a competitive streak, a love of anything with a motor and a highly scientific mind that makes him an avid learner. His imaginary games often include battles, challenges and races. Benjamin, on the other hand, has a compassionate heart and a love of animals. His imaginary games often involve good guys working together as friends and he also treats his favourite toys like family members, carrying them everywhere.

Enjoy Quality Time with Your Kids with New DVDs and Playsets from Thomas & Friends #FP_Thomas

October 10, 2013 by Kathryn 6 Comments

The older my boys get, the more it seems we spend our days rushing from one place to another without any time to just relax together and enjoy a little downtime. But that time to unwind is so important; it helps us catch up on one another’s lives and enjoy the quiet peacefulness of being together. That’s why I have recently started ensuring that I set aside one weekday evening and one weekend afternoon for my boys and I to just spend time together watching a movie, playing a board game or reading a book.

One of our very favourite activities recently has been playing board games together. It’s just been recently that Benjamin understand some of the basic concepts needed to play a basic game with us and now that he does, we’ve been finding all kinds of great games that we can play together. My poor youngest son still does have a tendency to pout a bit when he doesn’t win, but for the most part, playing a game together is something we always find relaxing and enjoyable.
