Crunchmaster Crackers and Chips Make Gluten-Free Taste Good-Giveaway

August 18, 2016 by Kathryn 121 Comments

My family has always been a family that loves our snacks, so I like to make sure I always have a good collection of snack foods on hand. Veggies and dip, cheese, deli meat and crackers are so popular in this house that we’ll often have them for lunch instead of a regular meal! And since I’m a huge fan of rice crackers, I was thrilled when I had the chance to review an assortment of Crunchmaster gluten-free crackers and chips. With tons of different flavours to choose from, deciding which one to try first was no easy task!

Since I especially love multigrain and seed products, I decided that the Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Original crackers would be the first ones I tried. I served them as part of a lunch charcuterie with gourmet cheese and my family’s favourite smoked salami. I loved the way the crackers blended with the meat and cheese flavours and the added crunch made this a snack I couldn’t stop eating! [Read more…]

Gluten-Free Eating is Pure Joy with Inspired by Happiness Gluten-Free Cakes-Giveaway

February 8, 2016 by Kathryn 124 Comments

If there’s one thing that almost everyone loves, it’s cake. A big slice of moist cake covered in creamy icing is such a treat whether it’s for a birthday celebration or just a way to make an ordinary day more special. But for someone with food sensitivities, finding a cake that’s appropriate for a special diet yet still mouth-watering can be harder than it seems. Inspired by Happiness, a company that wants everyone to be able to enjoy tasty cake any time, wants to change that with its new gluten-free cakes. And recently I had the chance to test them out and see what I thought!

I received a Cravin’ for Cookies & Cream and a Dreamin’ of Chocolate layer cake to test, carefully packaged on dry ice to arrive frozen. I loved that when kept frozen, these cakes stay fresh and delicious for up to six months. Once thawed, they can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week. I let my boys decide which cake they wanted to try first, and both of them decided the Cookies & Cream cake was the one we had to try. I defrosted the cake at room temperature for about fifteen minutes and then cut a slice for each of us. [Read more…]

Add More Vegetables to Your Diet with Hidden Garden Cookies

January 21, 2016 by Kathryn 193 Comments

One of the hardest things about healthy eating for me is giving up all those treats that taste so good, yet aren’t all that good for my body. I can’t resist the occasional sweet treat, and cookies are one of my favourites.

My boys love sweets just as much as I do, but of course I don’t want them having too much junk food either. Luckily, Hidden Garden has come to the rescue with tasty gluten-free and nut-free cookies that have a half-serving of hidden vegetables in every portion!

These cookies are crispy with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that’s absolutely addictive. Available in Chocolate Chip, Ginger Snap, Red Velvet and Cocoa Cherry varieties, there’s a flavour to suit everyone. And since every serving includes vegetables such as butternut squash, beets and spinach, they’re a treat that I can eat without feeling too guilty!

Gluten-Free Turtles Brownies Made Easy with Enjoy Life Baking Mixes

January 19, 2016 by Kathryn 116 Comments

One of the biggest downsides of dietary restrictions is missing out on tasty treats. I have an allergy to raw mushrooms and even though I discovered it in my tween years and haven’t eaten them since, I still miss the delicious marinated mushrooms my mom used to make for potlucks. I can only imagine how much harder it is to find tasty snacks and treats with an allergy to gluten, dairy or nuts!

That’s why I’m so happy Enjoy Life baking mixes have come to Canada. This line of mixes and gluten-free flour lets those with dietary restrictions or allergies indulge in some of the tasty foods that most of us take for granted. From pancakes to muffins to pizza, these mixes help make restricted eating fun!

I’d just tried a scrumptious Caramel Nut Brownie on a press trip and wanted to recreate it in a gluten-free version using the Enjoy Life Brownie Mix. And so my Gluten-Free Turtles Brownies were born! March 14, 2013 by Kathryn 111 Comments

Fish has to be one of the most delicious, healthy and versatile foods around and I make a point of cooking up a main course featuring fish whenever I get the chance. BlueWater Seafood, a company that I’ve featured in the past on Mommy Kat and Kids, has fabulous variety and options the whole family loves. And recently, the company has undergone the testing and monitoring necessary to ensure that the BlueWater Grill Fish is gluten free!

I received full-value coupons and a handy reusable sling bag so that I could try a few different variety of BlueWater Seafood and I had no problem filling up the bag with tasty BlueWater products. I decided to try the gluten free Grill Fish Haddock and I also bought some Multigrain Tilapia fillets because they featured added fibre and I knew my boys would love them. [Read more…]
