Help Your Family Minimize Cell Phone Radiation with the Lif3 Smartchip

January 7, 2017 by Kathryn 95 Comments

Running a website for a living means that my phone is almost always in my hands. From checking emails to posting updates on Facebook and Twitter, having my phone close by means that I’m always connected, even when I’m out of the house or away from my laptop. But I must admit that I’ve often wondered about the potential health risks of having my phone beside me so much. And with my oldest son quickly approaching the age of receiving his first phone, I also have his safety in my mind!

That’s why I found the concept of the Lif3 Smartchip so fascinating. This unique smartphone accessory has been proven through three different independent tests to reduce cell phone radiation by up to 99%. Each Smartchip is actually an ultra-thin printed circuit board sprayed with microwave-absorbing material. A radio frequency coupler then channels and disperses radiation out the back of the phone and away from the body. I love the fact that the Lif3 Smartchip is designed in a way that doesn’t interfere with the look and style of a phone and I was very excited when I had the chance to test it out for myself. Keep in Touch When You Travel with Que Smartphones and Travel Plans from Roam Mobility-Giveaway

February 18, 2015 by Kathryn 174 Comments

Staying connected when I travel is something that’s important to me not just because of my business, but because it lets me share special moments with loved ones at home and also communicate easily with the other people I’m with. When I took my boys to Mexico recently, I shared my experience using Roam Mobility for talk, text and data while there. Using my Roam Mobility Travel SIM Card, I was able to choose the plan that worked best for me and continue to make phone calls and post updates even while in Cancun.

Two weeks ago I once again turned to Roam Mobility during my weeklong trip to Orlando, Florida. For less than $4 per day, I was able to stay in touch with unlimited talk, text and data while I was there. Being able to post Instagram updates and do a quick check of my email in my free time was great, but being able to easily get in touch with others was even better. After spending a fun-filled day at Walt Disney World, I was able to call and arrange our pickup right when we wanted it with no hassle. And since unlimited US and Canada long distance is included as part of the plan, I was also able to call and talk to my boys back home in Canada. [Read more…]

Experience Affordable Connectivity with Smartphones and Tablets from Alcatel OneTouch-Giveaway

January 29, 2015 by Kathryn 307 Comments

With my oldest soon turning nine, I’ve realized that it will likely soon be time to find him a cell phone of his own. For the moment he gets by without one just fine since we live in a small town. He can walk or bike anywhere he needs to go, he knows the house number if he needs to call me while he’s out and his circle of friends is small enough that the parents all have each other’s phone numbers anyways.

But soon Zackary will be reaching the point at which a smartphone becomes a device for social interaction as much as for phone calls. Texting is a huge communication form for his generation and not being able to join in means that he will potentially be left out of activities planned through text. And as if that wasn’t enough of a motivation, my boys and I are moving later in the year as well. Zackary doesn’t really need a phone in a town as small as ours, but our new home is going to be in a significantly bigger area.

The problem, of course, is that even though I know my kids having phones one day is inevitable, I’m not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on one. As careful as my oldest son is with his electronics, I know how easy it is for accidents to happen and the idea of having to replace an expensive smartphone for my child just doesn’t sit well with me. That’s why I was so excited to learn that Alcatel OneTouch, one of the top ten phone manufacturers in the world, had recently come to Canada. [Read more…]

Stay Connected with New Panasonic DECT Premium Design Series Cordless Phones

June 16, 2014 by Kathryn 254 Comments

Even though I’m out and about a lot, a landline house phone is still something I find essential. For over a decade now I’ve had a set of three Panasonic cordless phones in my house as my landline units but as much as I loved them, I knew I was due for an upgrade. Luckily, Panasonic came to my rescue by giving me the chance to review its brand new Panasonic DECT Premium Design Series of cordless phones. I received the Panasonic KXPRD262 Dock Style Telephone model to review and I couldn’t wait to try out the new features the phone had to offer.

I decided to put the main base in the living room and the secondary base in my bedroom. I plugged in the phone bases, added batteries to the handsets and put them on the bases to charge. Just like that, my phones were ready to use! I made a call immediately to test out the system and thanks to the DECT 6.0 Plus technology, the phone had the perfect, crystal-clear sound that I’ve come to expect from Panasonic. [Read more…]

Upgrading to the Telus Samsung Galaxy S4

January 28, 2014 by Kathryn 28 Comments

I was a little slow to get on the smartphone bandwagon, but after getting a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone at the end of 2012, I was hooked. I am an Android girl through-and-through and proud of it, though after over a year with my S3, I couldn’t help but think about upgrading. So when Telus gave me the chance to review the new Samsung Galaxy S4, I was eager to it a try.

In all honesty, I didn’t expect much of a difference. I had seen the S4 and aside from being slightly larger and thinner, the basic layout and features seemed to be pretty similar to my current phone. So essentially, I expected I would be reviewing a slightly larger version of the same phone I already used with maybe a few minor tweaks to the interface and features.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is just a little bigger and a little thinner than the S3, but it makes a big difference in the overall feel of the phone.
