Kids Love Playing with Timeless Wooden Games from Blue Orange Games-Giveaway

As much as my boys love fancy, electronic toys and games, it’s invariably the more simple and classic activities that become their favourites. I love seeing how much Zackary and Benjamin enjoy sitting down to play a board game or act out a story with their favourite toys and I always love finding new games that seem like a good fit for my boys.

Recently Blue Orange Games sent me two of its beautiful wooden games to review and even as children’ games go, they were something special. We received Froggy Boogie and Zimbbos! to review and the boys were absolutely giddy about playing with the brightly coloured wooden pieces.

Celebrating Star Wars Day with Angry Bird Star Wars Games from Hasbro

mommy kat and kids RP

May 4th is Star Wars day and this year we had the chance to celebrate the day in style thanks to the fabulous line of Angry Birds Star Wars toys from Hasbro. My boys are huge fans of the Angry Birds franchise and Zackary, my oldest, actually received an Angry Birds Star Wars game for Christmas that he just loves. Needless to say, both boys were very excited when I pulled out the new Angry Birds Star Wars toys for them to play with!

I received an Angry Birds Star Wars Millennium Falcon Bounce Game and an Angry Birds Star Wars Foam Flyer to review. The Foam Flyer went to Benjamin since the bigger sets are a little complicated for him and since he always loves to have the same types of toys as his big brother. This fun foam Angry Birds Star Wars Stormtrooper character was the perfect solution! It was a little bigger than a softball and perfect for small children to throw around. Benjamin carried his Foam Flyer with him for the rest of the day and later this summer, we’ll all have fun setting up empty boxes outside and trying to knock them down with this fun character! Get Kids Excited About Healthy Eating with Eat To Win: Classroom Edition-Giveaway

Last year I had a chance to check out an innovative new game called Eat To Win that is designed to help children develop healthy eating habits and learn about nutrition in a fun way. The board games are great for at-home fun but Eat to Win wants every child to have the knowledge they need to make healthy eating choices and that’s why the company also created a handy classroom edition version of the game perfect for helping kids from Preschool to Grade 5 learn about nutrition and exercise!

eat to win classroom editionEat to Win Classroom Edition is a set of flash cards in four different categories: Eat It, Quiz It, Know It and Do It. An activity book included with the cards contains an assortment of group games that can be played with the set. And, best of all, the Quiz It cards are actually left blank so that teachers can write their own questions on the cards to help prepare children for upcoming tests or add important content of their own.

My boys loved playing with these cards and they especially enjoyed the Eat It cards, which contained questions about different types of food, and the Do It cards, which contained fun activities for children to do right at that minute. From singing while rowing an imaginary boat to standing and sitting five times as fast as possible, the actions had my boys hopping and laughing every time. And the cards can also be used with the original Eat to Win board game so that younger or older children can still be challenged! [Read more...]

Three Easy Ways to Take Time For Yourself

One of the biggest challenges as a parent is finding moments for “me” time. Some parents feel that there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to take time for personal indulgences and some even feel guilty about spending time enjoying themselves instead of caring for their family. But taking that time out for you is important. So how can you add “me” time to your busy schedule? It doesn’t have to be difficult!

cappuccinoStay In – One of the easiest ways to enjoy some relaxing grown-up fun is to do something at home in the late evening hours after kids are in bed. Invite one or two friends over for snacks, drinks and great conversation or just cuddle up with your spouse to enjoy a board game or your favourite online game at partybingo.com. It’s a great way to reconnect with the people you care about! [Read more...]

Beat the Clock and Play as a Team with Volcano Island Coundown-Giveaway

My boys love to play board games but often, it’s hard for me to find games that are easy enough for my boys to play and still entertaining for me. Fortunately, Spin Master Games knows games well enough to be able to create one that’s fun for kids and adults, so when the company gave me the chance to review its newest game, Volcano Island Countdown, I couldn’t wait.

volcano island countdownThe first thing that appealed to me about this game was that it was a cooperative game rather than a competitive one. My boys have issues with competitiveness that can often lead to disaster when playing a regular board game. I was happy that wouldn’t be an issue with Volcano Island Countdown.

Zackary was immediately captivated by the fact that the game involved a volcano. My oldest son has quite a scientific mind and as a result, has a fascination with many natural wonders including volcanoes. He was thrilled to have the chance to play a game involving one, especially when he learned that the volcano would explode if we didn’t win the game quickly enough! [Read more...]

Teach Your Children About Nutrition and Physical Activity with the Eat to Win Board Game-Giveaway

I try very hard to make sure that my boys are eating healthy and getting lots of exercise but there are times that that can be very difficult. Zackary and Benjamin have very different tastes when it comes to healthy food, which makes cooking difficult, and have exactly the same taste in junk food, which I have to constantly try to curb. To top it all off, while they’re both very active boys, they tend to bore easily and need lots of different active options to keep them moving.

eat to win board gameThat’s why I thought the concept of Eat to Win, a new board game to teach children about healthy eating and physical activity, was so interesting. I received a copy of both the original and the Weight Loss Edition versions of the game and I was excited to sit down with my boys and see what they thought of it.

The game is designed to be really visually appealing to children with plenty of bright colours, game cards, play money and food tokens. I liked the fact that the player tokens were little bicycles and that money, something most children find fascinating, was involved. We started rolling the dice and moving around the board and before long we were all hooked. [Read more...]

Enjoying Easy and Fun Holiday Entertaining with the Ladbrokes Casino Party Pack

The season of casual get-togethers and fun parties is almost here and I cannot wait to reconnect with friends and family over the holidays. I love entertaining and tend to go a little bit overboard cooking, decorating and preparing for parties. So when Ladbrokes Casino offered to send me a party pack containing an assortment of party supplies, I was thrilled.

ladbrokes party pack

The party pack contained so many fun things. From a cocktail set to red party plates, bowls and cups to tiny drink umbrellas and fancy straws to the Twister board game, it really was a party in a box. I was especially excited to see that the box contained not one, but two cocktail recipe books! As a former bartender, I’m always interested in the latest and tastiest drink creations and having a good book of cocktail recipes can be so handy when people are looking for something a little different.
